Personal Introduction

Anne is a postdoctoral associate with Nathan Grubaugh at the Yale School of Public Health working on genomic epidemiology of emerging infectious diseases including SARS-CoV-2. Anne is a molecular immunologist and completed her PhD working on anti-viral responses of unconventional T cells in Germany. She further obtained training in epidemiology and infectious disease control at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Besides her research, Anne is active in advocating for the needs of early career researchers, for example through yEFIS (network for early career researchers based in Europe) as well as outreach activities and science communication to the public.

Community Spotlight - August 2023 Newsletter

Home:

I’m originally from an idyllic region in Germany called Franconia (close to the border to Czechia), that’s where most of my family lives and the place I will always call home. Currently, I enjoy the East Coast life in New Haven, CT.

🤩 Science:

I’m fascinated by how pathogens shaped our immune systems, our genomes and societies! I’m curious to study how human populations react to infectious disease threats - especially to (re-)emerging diseases – all the way through from the cellular level over public health interventions to policy responses and international collaboration.

Joy:

I love exploring new places and I’m just back from a trip to the Florida Keys which left me amazed and inspired! I’m also currently planning a trip to South Africa at the end of the year as I’ll be attending IUIS2023 in Cape Town - if anyone else is going too – let me know! 😊

I’m very excited for the ENGAGE campaign to get started and already signed up! I’m also looking forward to get involved in other S4S projects that touch on topics relevant for early career researchers as the publishing idea engine, how to improve research funding structures and making science more inclusive!
